Animal Science, Industry and Production Concentration, B.S.
The Animal Science, Industry and Production Concentration major is intended for undergraduate students interested in careers in animal agriculture, animal husbandry, or allied areas, upon completing their B.S. degree. As such, the curriculum is designed to focus on foundational areas of the animal sciences, while giving students the opportunity to tailor their program in specific areas through elective choices.
The Animal Science, Industry and Production Concentration major in the School of Agriculture prepares undergraduate students for careers in animal agriculture and other areas within the animal sciences by equipping them with knowledge and skills to:
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of core concepts in livestock and poultry management, health, welfare, genetics, reproduction, and nutrition.
- Analyze complex situations which impact agricultural animal production and synthesize strategies to address potential problems.

Animal Science is the study of animals that serve humankind. Animal Science includes the study of food, fiber, and companion animal species, and includes disciplines such as nutrition, reproduction, genetics, management, and animal products.
What can you do with an animal science degree?

Many jobs are in the area of production animal agriculture (e.g., poultry, beef cattle, dairy cattle, swine, and small ruminants). Most students who choose to major in Animal Science, Industry and Production Concentration are interested in completing their 4-year undergraduate degree and then pursuing a career in various animal-related fields. Students majoring in Animal Science, Industry and Production Concentration may consider graduate-level programs in the animal sciences after completion of their undergraduate degree. However, you should work closely with departmental faculty and advisors to plan additional coursework as part of your undergraduate program to best prepare you for graduate school admission.
